The study of French diplomacy towards China indicates that the Elysee Palace has been in the process of regulating diplomatic relations with China in pursuit of its economic interests and special investment in China in various sectors of the Chinese economy through the enhancement of its cultural soft power. Despite the fact cultural relations between the two countries (France and China) are affected by commercial relations, the French government seeks to compensate for the trade deficit in bilateral relations with China, relying on its soft power and allocating a significant budget to this sector, in order to compensate for the negative trade balance with Beijing. Efforts have been done in French cultural diplomacy to attract more tourists from China, focusing on the relative advantage of investment in the luxury goods, enhancement of creativity in interior design, and promotion of francophonie as part of soft-power-oriented plans.
